A storm is looming in 2022 as the nation approaches another general election.
Apart from the much awaited presidential contest, the nation will also be treated to an interesting contest for the gubernatorial seats.
This will be more intense in Rift Valley region, the home ground of Deputy President William Ruto.
Boasting of many vocal leaders, the nation will be keen to see the next set of county bosses from the region.
Here are some of DP Ruto's allies who could ascend to the county leadership seats;
1. Kipchumba Murkomen
The second term Elgeyo Marakwet Senator will have no one to stop him from accessing to the top county seat should he express his interest in it. Banking on his vocal nature and closeness to DP Ruto, the region's kingpin, the lawmaker has all the advantages to his side. He proved his political might and influence through his reelection in 2013 and ascent to the prestigious Senate Majority Leader slot. Therefore, he is the most likely successor for the outgoing Alex Tolgos in the approaching 2022 polls.
2. Samson Cherargei
He is the Senator for Nandi county, and equally vocal and close to the DP who calls the shots in this side of the nation. The latter seems closer to the DP than current county boss Stephen Sang. He could rip big on the fact that he has always stood up for Ruto as opposed to the Governor who seems to have isolated the DP to concentrate on his executive job and in a region where praising the DP is better than initiating development, he has a good excuse to ask for the vote and will get it.
3. Aaron Cheruiyot
The Senator, just like his colleagues, could find his way to the top seat should he ask for it. The Kericho county is currently under Paul Chepkwony who is on his second and last term. He is set to rip big from his vocality and self allocated slot as the DP's protection against critics. However, it depends on whether he will ask for the position.
