Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said he is still backing the calls for a referendum just like he did before the 2017 General Elections.

Speaking at Pride Inn Hotel in Mombasa County on Saturday, the second-term governor said he was among the first politicians in the entire country to advocate for a Constitutional review before others bought the idea.

Mutua said the Constitutional amendment will pave way for better leadership in the country.

He noted that the new reforms will ensure "we have an all-inclusive government."

Mutua said the change in the current constitution will ensure that the cost of running national and county governments is reduced, which is good for the citizens of this nation as far as development is concerned.

“Kenyans will recall that after the 2017 elections, I was among the first leaders to advocate for constitutional reforms which will not only ensure an inclusive national executive but also reduce the cost of running the government for Kenyan's benefit," he said.

Mutua urged the former Vice President to back his candidature as he seeks to rise to power in 2022.

He said Kalonzo has proven beyond doubt that he is not ready for power.
