Central Kenya teachers drawn from Kiambu, Muranga, Nyeri, kirinyanga and Nyandarua county have threatened to abandon the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT)
The teachers have decried what they termed as lack of adequate representation in their union's executive committee after losing out in the recently conducted elections.
Patrick Karinga, a Central Kenya unionist, lost in the recent elections that were held at Bomas during Annual delegates conference. Karinga is the current Executive Chairman for Nyeri's KNUT branch. He had interest in the first Vice Chairperson's post but lost to Henry Collins Oyuu.
Oyuu is from Nyanza region, and was elected in a drift from the norm where the slot has been a reserve for Central Kenya.
Traditionally, KNUT reserves the chairperson position for the Western region, First Vice Chairperson for Central, Second Vice Chairperson for the Coast Region while the Deputy's slot is left for Nyanza. In the new 11-members executive committee, Central Region has been left without representation.
During the KNUT annual delegates conference, Secretary General Wilson Sossion openly supported Henry Collins Oyuu while National Treasurer Mr John Matiangi supported Patrick Karinga.
"It is commonly known that we witnessed non delegates voting and I believe that was a design" claimed Mr Karangi.
