So unpredictable is Raila Odinga that he keeps his supporters and political opponents guessing over his next move.
In March, Raila caught both his supporters and government functionaries among them DP William Ruto unprepared when he backed his competitor, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
And his recent interview with Citizen TV may have further thrown DP William Ruto off-balance since he could not openly state his 2022 plan.
While he has dissociated himself from 2022 politics, Raila has kept Ruto guessing about his likely worthy opponent.
“I cannot talk about 2022. We must fix issues of 2017 then we can talk about 2022. The pact is in public domain go and read,” he said.
He added: "The NASA deal is public, just go read it. It's available, just get it."
Towards 2017 polls, Raila indicated that he would only serve as transitional president thus technically giving a clue that he won't be on ballot.
However, a section of his allies have been hinting of his possible participation in the polls with James Orengo leading the campaign.
Even more confusing to Ruto's camp is Raila's secret meeting with Gideon Moi, who has also declared interest in the seat.
DP Ruto's ally Patrick Osero concedes that Raila's tactics are difficult to predict.
"He just met Gideon after handshake with Uhuru. It's difficult to tell whether he's running or he will back someone else."
