In a statement by the commission, the breakdown of the new prices of Super Petrol,  Diesel and Kerosine have been lowered from the current prices.

"Taking into account the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, the changes in the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices in Nairobi are as follows: Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene decrease by KShs. 4.12, KShs. 6.28 and KShs. 5.20 per litre respectively," read the review statement.

The commission which is mandated to calculate the maximum retail prices of petroleum products in accordance with legal notice No.196 of 2010, Energy (Petroleum Pricing) Regulation and the amendment also shared the new prices of other major towns including Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru among others.

The commission said the price includes the 8% Value Added Tax(VAT)  which was passed controversially last year.

"The pump prices are inclusive of 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with provisions of the Finance Act 2018. Changes in this month’s prices are as a result of the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene decreasing by 7.23%, 11.29%, 3.92% respectively," stated ERC.
