Rono is a First Class Honours graduate from Chuka University whose poverty-stricken life, in a sleepy village in Baringo, was highlighted by Festus Kipchumba on Facebook.

The Economics and Statistics graduate had been offered another job in Nairobi by an NGO that came across her sorry story but Zahra convinced her to work for GDC.

She hails from Lelbatai village in Tenges ward, Baringo and graduated four years ago.

She has, however, been languishing in poverty after she went back to the village to take care of her siblings when her mum became sick.

Her dad, she said, is an irresponsible father who has become a village drunk.

With her sickly mother going back to her parents for care, and with a disabled sister, Rono had no choice but to dump her papers and adopt a village life.

With the power of social media that highlighted her case, she will now report to Geothermal power development company on February 6, 2019.

Mrs Moi promised that  Moi Africa Institute (MAIN) Foundation will fend for the girl's siblings and educate them till university level.
