Central Organisation of Trade Union (Cotu) boss Francis Atwoli has said Deputy President William Ruto will never be president.
Atwoli said ‘a Kalenjin can be president in 2022 but not Ruto’. Gideon Moi, the Kanu chairman, is the only other politician from Rift Valley who has declared an interest in the 2022 presidential race.
“The DP is not the right leader for Kenya. He hates others. Ruto will never lead Kenya. We shall have a President in 2022, but it will not be William Ruto,” Atwoli said.
The vocal unionist spoke on Saturday during the funeral of Lugari MP Ayub Savula's daughter, Joanne Chiri, at Manyonyi village.
He also hit out at a section of leaders from Western region for allegedly being guns for hire.
"Luhyas were known to be wrestlers and not being subservient to others because of handouts. This cheap race for handouts that has emerged within the Luhya community is strange. It is embarrassing," he said.
Leaders have been on a frenzy over the 2022 succession politics as President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to retire.
Atwoli said ‘they will change the constitution’ not matter what."We must change the Constitution for the sake of stability of the nation. We’re not relenting on this. We want peace," he said
