The family of former Garissa County Finance Minister Idriss Mukhtar who survived attempted assassination on August 19 now wants the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji to order arrest and prosecution of top suspects who allegedly conspired to have him killed.
Through lawyer Charles Kanjama, the family claims that top suspects who allegedly conspired to have Mukhtar eliminated are known and are walking freely.
Speaking to journalists in Nairobi on Tuesday, Kanjama said that the family is not satisfied with the arrest and charging of only two suspects, Hussein Aden, and Juliet Njoki, over the attempted murder.
“The top suspects who conspired to kill Idriss are still out there and the family is fearful that justice may not be served,” he said told journalists in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Kanjama said that he has written to the DPP to have the matter expedited and suspects implicated arrested and charged in court.
The lawyer said that Idriss family is fearful that there is pressure from the political class to have the matter allegedly swept under the carpet.
Kanjama said that probe into the attempted murder is complete and that the file is with the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
“What the family wants to see is speedy justice for Idriss who is battling for his life in ICU,” he said.
The investigation into the attempted is said to be complete.
Last week detectives visited Garissa as they pieced information in relation to the attempted murder.
Governor Ali Korane is among people who been interrogated in connection with the attempted murder.
Mukhtar who has a bullet lodged in his head was last week flown to India for specialised treatment.
