Muthwani Member of County Assembly George King'ori has asked Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua to stop taking credit of the national government's Universal Health Care (UHC) programme.
Speaking in his ward on Saturday, King'ori claimed that the governor has been transversing the county chest thumping about the programme.
"We all know UHC is a national government project but when the governor is busy taking credit for it, he is discouraging his non-supporters from registering, he should let every Machakos resident benefit," said the MCA who also rubbished claims that the Ward Representatives are on the forefront opposing the project.
"We want this project like never before, no one is opposing it at all, in fact, we're urging Machakos residents to ensure they register with the programme to benefit with medicals services," he said.
King'ori observed that a lot of hospitals in the county lack medicines, a hindrance to the success of the UHC.
He said the county government should ensure there are drugs in the hospitals.
"Like in Muthwani there is no single hospital despite the governor promising one, my people are forced to go up to Kangundo, Machakos or Nairobi for treatment and in Kangundo there are no drugs. Machakos hospitals are beautiful from the outside but nothing to be proud of," said the Ward Rep.
"We have been complaining about lack of drugs in hospitals but the governor thinks we are fighting him when we are just stating facts," he added.
