This follows an incident where a student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) was stabbed by suspected thugs on Monday.

The comrade, identified as Mofasa Shawn, was attacked around 5.30pm while walking with his girlfriend near the campus.

After the victim made a distress call, the suspect was apprehended by an angry mob who beat him up and burnt him to death.

Shawn was taken to the Thika Level Five Hospital where he received treatment.

The incident comes barely a month after another JKUAT student was stabbed to death under unclear circumstances.

Tabitha Muthoni, a first-year student, was allegedly stabbed in the neck after she confronted robbers who were trying to snatch her mobile phone.

The killing prompted her colleagues to hold demonstrations around Juja and its environs to protest against rising insecurity.

The latest incident has angered a section of Kenyans who have taken to social media to urge the government to beef up security in the area.

"The rate in which we are losing comrades more so from JKUAT is worrying @DCI_Kenya @NPSOfficial_KE do something to save the lives of innocent students," Marcello Omutiti Omuttaha tweeted.

"If no security measures are taken, JKUAT students should boycott classes and go home until they are assured of their safety first. We are tired of mourning," posted Toya Gilberts.

Here are more reactions to the incident.
