Vocal unionist Francis Atwoli has said Deputy President William Ruto’s name will not be in the ballot in the 2022 presidential election.
In remarks likely to cause political fireworks in the country, the Central Organisation of Trade Union (COTU) secretary general said that will be according to ‘God’s plans’.
"I want you to write this down, 2022 we will go to the election to elect the president and people will vote in high number because we will have changed the constitution, you will elect president, his deputy, prime minister and others … but I want to tell you one thing, the name of one William Samoei Ruto will not be on the ballot,” Atwoli said.
He added: “You can take it to the bank for free. And that is not my plans but God’s plan.”
The outspoken leader was speaking in Lamu on Saturday during fundraising for a women’s caucus.
Atwoli also accused Ruto of buying ‘young MPs’ to accompany him for rallies and ‘sing his name’.
The story of the DP’s Weston Hotel also emerged as Atwoli claimed that Ruto underpays employees at the hotel.
