While the man insisted that he was asked by God to grow the crop, Raila Odinga Jnr now says President Uhuru Kenyatta's government should legalize the crop.

"Serious discussion have to be held on the legalization and control of cannabis sativa, and entrepreneurs like MR Mbugua in their business and religious conquests #LegalizeIt."

Not just Mr. Odinga Junior, economist David Ndii had one time asked the government to consider the crop.

And even more compelling, former Nyamira Senatir Okong'o Mong'are had insisted that the crop would generate more revenue to government.

In his bill that would after all collapse, Mr. Okong'o wondered why the government was punishing consumers.

"There is need for senators to consider this bill. Time has come to legalize marijuana. There is nothing wrong with it," he had argued.

Should Kenya legalise the crop, it will join US states such as Nevada, Colorado and South Carolina.
