Detectives have been thrown into a state of limbo after it emerged that police gave contradicting reports on the death of Rebecca Njoki, wife to popular journalist Milton Nyakundi.
Njoki, in the company of two other friends, is said to have miscalculated and drowned into a river on Tuesday night after having few drinks at Nanyuki Police Station.
Area police boss Simon Kipkeu said that the two ladies did not report the incident the very night despite the station being barely 100 meters away.
“When they arrived at the bridge, one of the ladies miscalculated the steps and landed into the river. The friends did not report to police immediately,” he said.https://mobile.nation.co.ke/news/Nanyuki-police-probe-journalist-s-mysterious-death-/1950946-4831762-item-1-sa5dn9z/index.html.
But according to detectives, the two ladies, who have since been summoned to clear air, reported the matter but police delayed rescue mission until the following day due to darkness.
And with the two contradicting reports, sleuths will now have to establish the sequence of events during the fateful night.
Back in Nyamira, leaders joined locals in paying tribute to Mrs Njoki and the family of Nyakundi, a journalist popular in the region.
"I am really shocked by the news of her death. I have known Nyakundi and the wife for some time. It's a huge loss," said former area Women Rep Alice Chae, a journalist by profession.
Other leaders who mourned with Nyakundi include Timothy Bosire, the ODM Treasurer, Victor Swanya and aspiring Kitutu Masaba MP David Ombego.
