Former Youths and Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa struggled to deliver his speech at a funeral in Kakamega on Saturday after dragging the name of Raila Odinga to the predicaments facing sugar industries.
Sugar farmers from the Western belt have struggled to revive the industry even with President Uhuru Kenyatta's stern warning to Agriculture minister Mwangi Kiunjuri over their renumeration.
"Sugar farming must be taken seriously. We have pumped billions but am not seeing results. Farmers must be paid their dues immediately and that is an order," Uhuru said.
Mr Kiunjuri has set a task force in which Mr Odinga has been often consulted over revamping of sugar farming. Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and Governor Wycliffe Oparanya are also members.
Speaking at the funeral, Echesa accused Raila of destroying sugar farming by purchasing factories in Western Kenya and Nyanza, adding that he's a disaster to the sector.
"Vile mmeskia kuna task force ilitengenezwa. Governor Oparanya is a member and your senator Malala. Yule mtu ambaye anaangamiza sugar farming ni Raila Odinga. Amenunua viwanda vyote na kufanya huu ukulima kuwa na shida," he said amid protests from mourners.
It translates to: "We have a task force on sugar farming. Our Governor Oparanya and Senator Malala are members. However, the person collapsing sugar industries is Raila Odinga. He is acquiring factories."
Mr Echesa was dismissed from cabinet in February and his docket taken by Amina Mohammed. President Uhuru Kenyatta is yet to give explanation over his sacking.
More often than not, the close ally of DP William Ruto, has blamed ODM leader Raila Odinga for engineering his exit from cabinet. He used to be ODM Youth League Leader before fallout.
