Former Presidential candidate Nazlin Umar has backed the push to amend the 2010 constitution.
Umar says that the 2010 law should be amended to reduce the number of elective political seats.
According to Umar, Kenyans have been overburdened with taxes to fund non-performing and unnecessary political seats.
She said that the county is over-represented with duplication of roles.
“I will rally Kenyans to support referendum in order to reduce on reduce the number of elective seats,” she said in a statement on her Facebook page.
Umar further proposed merging of government parastatals and agencies.
She claimed that there is a massive waste of public resources in some state agencies.
Umar also proposes the strengthening of electoral agencies and laws before 2022.
She said that election fraud is to blame for the issues facing the country.
“Kenyans must speak now and push for an end to election fraud and injustice,” she said.
Umar is also supporting calls to allocate more money to county governments.
She said that devolution was meant to promote development and not to deny Kenyans services.
The referendum debate continues to take shape with the majority of politicians across the political divide supporting it.
However, a section of politicians among them Garissa Township MP Aden Duale is against it on grounds that it is not a priority.
Duale as vowed to rally the pastoralist community to reject the referendum push.
