A key suspect linked to the attempted murder of former Garissa Finance Executive Committee Member Idris Mukhtar has accused police detectives of torturing him in cells.

Mohamud Hussein Aden claims that police have been beating him and even denying him food.

Through his lawyer Cliff Ombeta, the suspect told court attracted public 'genitals' were allegedly squeezed and injured by police during his interrogation.

The suspect who appeared before Milimani High Court deputy Registrar Faith Muguongo for a miscellaneous application on Tuesday pleaded the court to grant him medical attention.

“Our client needs urgent medication as a result of the torture he has been going through in the police cells,” his lawyer told the court.

The court ordered the suspect to be taken to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for treatment.                                                          

“He can access treatment at KNH as police continue with their investigations,” the court said.

The prosecution did not oppose the court order for the suspect to get treatment.

The suspect alongside others is in custody as police finalize investigations into the attempted murder.

Garissa Governor Ali Korane is among people who have been questioned in regards to the shooting.

Korane over the weekend said that he has no hand in the shooting.

The family of the victim who is battling his life in the hospital now wants the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji to take up investigations.
