Shabana FC has been promoted to the National Super League after edging out Mwatate FC 7-6 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time of play at MISC Kasarani on Sunday.
This result prompted leaders, who were part of the cheering squad to contribute around Sh460,000 that was given to team as appreciation for the effort they made.
The promotion also made the deputy governor Joash Maangi, who was present, to make a pledge that the county government of Kisii will now "own" Shabana.
This is not the first time the county is promising to support Shabana FC. Back in 2014, the county made similar promises which it would later not honour even though Shabana had issues surrounding its promotion to the KPL then.
Almost four years since that very promise, the stadium is yet to be "fully complete", leave alone the talent academies that the county promised to put in place.
Apart from Shabana team, the county had promised to refurbish stadia across the county in an effort to reach the talent in remote areas, something that is yet to kick off.
Even as time keeps moving, all eyes are now set on the youthful sports CEC, Duke Mainga, alias Echate, to see if he'll push his boss, Governor Ongwae to honour his word, till then that remains but a promise on paper.
