It what could be an indication of a serious fight against corruption, former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero met Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich on Tuesday as they tried to clear their names in two separate cases.

The two, probably very high profile people, are facing graft charges that could see them thrown into prison for several years if found guilty by the anti-corruption court.

Kidero was seen having a discussion with Rotich, who appeared for the first time in Milimani Law Courts hours after his Monday arrest.

While Kidero was appearing for an ongoing case where he's accused of embezzlement of Sh68 million at City Hall, Rotich on the other hand denied 24 counts among them abuse of office in Sh21 billion scandal in construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams.

DPP Noordin Haji on Monday ordered for the arrest of Mr Rotich, PS Kamau Thugge and 26 others over the alleged role played in the scandal that could further split Jubilee administration.

“In the public interest to prosecute these cases, I have considered that such infractions are crimes against mwananchi individually and collectively and the decision to prosecute is in line with safeguarding the public good,” Mr Haji said on Monday at a press briefing in Nairobi.

In April, Kidero on the other hand accused investigators of witch-hunt, insisting that they were only interested in cheap media publicity at the expense of his reputation.

“It’s a demonstration that EACC is only interested in cheap media publicity and to try my case in the court of public opinion rather than present their case in a formal judicial system where they have to provide proof beyond the excitement of arrests and media.

"I was arrested at 6 am; why wasn’t I taken to court on the same day? The plan, it would appear, was to keep me in a police station the whole weekend,” he told the court.
