Hundreds of Uasin Gishu residents on Saturday joined the world in celebrating World Cleanup day by cleaning Eldoret town.

The locals who turned up for the event were distributed in different parts of Eldoret own where they conducted the exercise.

They cleaned Eldoret town, River Sosiani, Bandaptai, Nandi park among other places. 

Uasin Gishu County Executive in charge of Environment Mary Njogu who was the chief guest said their aim is to ensure Eldoret is a clean town.

Njogu also warned those dumping garbage in River Sosiani river that they will be arrested and prosecuted.

The exercise was organized by the County government of Uasin Gishu, the University of Eldoret, Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) North Rift region, Eldoret National Polytechnic, Catholic University among others.

The World Cleanup Day is celebrated annually on September 21st.
