Residents of Kiomiti in Kisii County were on Tuesday left in shock after a lifeless body of an unidentified man was found on the roadside.
Confirming the incident, Kisii County commissioner Godfrey Kigochi said members of the public notified police officers from Ramasha police station about the body.
"The man was bleeding from the noises despite the fact that he was dead. He might have been killed elsewhere before his body was dumped in the area," said Kigochi as reported by Egesa Fm, a local vernacular Radio station.
The county security boss said residents didn't identify the man since he does not hail from the area.
He noted that the body of the deceased had physical bruises on his face and marks on his neck.
"It is too early to tell whether he was murdered or not. Detectives are doing everything possible to know the cause of the man's death," noted the county commissioner.
The body was moved to Kisii Referral Hospital morgue awaiting identification.
Kigochi, however, assured locals that police have intensified security patrols in the area and called for calm as they probe the incident.
"There is no cause for alarm since we have enough officers on the grounds to offer security," he added.
