Makueni Member of Parliament Daniel Maanzo is among the vocal lawmakers in Ukambani.
The Wiper legislator came into the limelight when he was chairman of the Orange Democratic Movement Kenya (ODM-K) party.
A few months to the 2007's general elections, wrangles emerged within the party between Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga over who was to be the party's presidential flagbearer.
In mid-August 2007, the wrangles became intense leading to the formation of two factions, pro-Raila and Pro-Kalonzo.
It was at that point when the current Makueni MP Dan Maanzo declared that ODM-K belonged to Kalonzo and Raila was left partyless.
Maanzo ran away with the registration certificate of the initial ODM-Kenya Party, leaving Raila partyless towards the 2007 elections.
He then used the party to sponsor Kalonzo Musyoka in his presidential bid.
However, despite that show of utmost loyalty to Kalonzo, in 2008 Maanzo and Julia Ojiambo sued Kalonzo over a party MPs nominations row.
This is after Kalonzo failed to honor his word to nominate them to the 10th parliament after he was appointed Vice President by the former President Mwai Kibaki.
The party had nominated two people, Shakila Mohammed and Mohammed Affey.
Maanzo and Ojiambo protested the duo's nominations claiming they were against the party's constitution.
They wanted the High Court to stop the party from forwarding the names of the nominees for gazettement claiming they had been short-changed.
