A video posted on Facebook by Popcorn Movement of the University of Nairobi students sleeping on the pavement floors and TV rooms has gone viral on various social media platforms.
In the video, one of the university students who hails from Laikipia County narrates why he has resorted to sleeping on the pavement.
The student narrated that he comes from a poor family that cannot afford accommodation away from the university hostels. More so, he claimed that he doesn’t have any relatives in the city that can accommodate him.
He accused the university of lacking enough accommodation facilities for students, stating that many students lack accommodation in the university and have to look for alternatives elsewhere.
“Here at the University of Nairobi we are just suffering, we don’t have rooms. The university doesn’t want to hear us. Some of the students are sleeping in the TV rooms. You will find that in a room there are five students squeezing in a single room,” said the student.
However, these claims have been dismissed by the Director of Corporate affairs, John Orindi. He started that there are no students sleeping on pavement floors or the TV rooms as claimed by the student in the viral video.
More light was added into this story when Mr Orindi revealed that the student in the viral video is an aspiring student leader who wants to use the situation in inciting other students.
