It is believed that if someone goes against the traditions, it may cause misfortunes to them.

Some of the Nandi community members who live in the North Rift region still adhere to the traditions.

These traditions include;

Every meal must be shared with the ancestors. This is done by pouring some food on the ground before you eat.

"Ancestors still live among us and they bring blessing or cause misfortunes if we do not appease them. One way of appeasing them is offering libation," says Sambai, a resident of Ndalat.

During circumcision, twins are never separated from each other. In a case of fraternal twins and the boy is ready to undergo initiation, the twin girl is involved in most of the occasion, as the twins are believed to be connected spiritually.

Moreover, in an initiation ceremony, mothers must bless their boys with a 'blessing cream' applied to their faces. If this is not done, it is believed that the boy will suffer mysterious ailments during the initiation ceremony.

"The connection between the mother and his son is build since birth and if during circumcision the mother denies his son blessings, he will be attacked by the evil spirits, "Kipchoge, a village elder in Turbo said.
