The relationship between former Bomet governor Isaac Ruto and Deputy President William Ruto turned sour soon after the 2013 general elections.
The two had been close political allies for a long time and were among the brains behind the formation of the then United Republican Party (URP) which later merged with The National Alliance (TNA) party to form the current Jubilee party.
The two completely fell out when Isaac Ruto was the chair of the Council of Governors (CoG) and wanted the government to increase the amount of money set for devotion.
Ruto moved out to form his Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party which was perceived as a competitor to Jubilee party in the South Rift region.
In 2016, the CCM party leader joined Senator Gideon Moi and KANU party in campaigning for Paul Sang during the much heated Kericho senatorial by-elections. The race was between the KANU’s candidate Paul Sang and Jubilee’s Aaron Cheruiyot.
Since then, Isaac Ruto had a close relationship with Senator Moi who is DP Ruto’s political rival in the Rift Valley region.
Isaac Ruto would later join NASA coalition and totally became a Jubilee rebel. However, the two nemeses met at Bomet County on Sunday and buried the ratchet that had been existing between them. There have been rumours that the former Chepalungu MP will soon land a government job.
The recent reunion of DP Ruto and the former governor is a huge blow to Senator Moi.
Isaac Ruto would have helped Moi to dilute the popularity of DP Ruto in the Rift Valley region. It is likely that the former county boss will campaign against Moi in the 2022 general elections.
