In a tweet on Tuesday evening, Mr. Havi revealed that the list has a number of imbalances.

"4 women in a list of 24 of Senior Counsel. 8 appointees from one ethnic community. Where is gender, ethnic and regional balance? The committee of 9 had 5 women: Court of Appeal Judge, High Court Judge and 3 women from LSK. They let us down on gender balance and everything," wrote Nelson Havi.

The celebrated lawyer decried lack of inequality in the list.

Only four women were in the list which includes 24 people.

Mr. Havi further slammed the female members of the Senior Counsel Committee for not pushing for equality.

The list includes former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) started sending notification letters to successful applicants on September 19, 2019.

“The committee at its meeting held on August 26, 2019 considered your application. We are pleased to inform you that your application was successful,” reads part of the letter as quoted by Nation.

A total of 90 lawyers made applications for this prestigious status. However, 66 applicants were rejected including that of city lawyer Donald Kipkorir.
