Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued new orders that are directed at scraping fees paid at public toilets within the county.
The move will see Nairobi residents enjoy the services for free henceforth.
Speaking on Wednesday at Charter Hall where he launched a Sh357 million bursary fund initiative, the Nairobi County boss noted that City Hall receives approximately Sh6.2 million every year from public toilet contractors and that it is unfair to charge the residents.
“City residents should not be charged to use public toilets. It is unfair to charge voters of Nairobi to use a public facility. I will give a directive that from today all toilets within the city to be free,” stated Governor Sonko.
Out of the 68 public toilets in Nairobi county, 17 are located within the Central Business District.
Mr Sonko also announced a Sh500,000 increase in bursaries to cater for needy students noting that each of the 85 wards in the county will receive Sh3.5 million for the same.
“To underscore my commitment to education today I launch the Nairobi City County bursaries to over 70,000 poor bright children of Nairobi,” said Sonko.
