Kibera people could soon find solace after a section of parliamentary leadership sent pleas to President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider the plight of the less fortunate.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has pleaded with the president to save Kenyans from the ‘difficult times’ caused by rising fuel prices.
The MP wants Uhuru to assent to the Finance (Amendment) Bill of 2018 and cushion Kenyans.
According to the vocal ODM MP, millions of Kenyans are going hungry as result of increased fuel prices.
The MP who spoke to journalists at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Monday said that he has written to resident Kenyatta urging him to save the country.
“I have written His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta asking him to find alternative ways of reducing public expenditure and waste instead of imposing a tax burden on Kenyans,” he said.
The MP hit out at Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich accusing him of overburdening Kenyans with taxes.
“The CS (Treasury) must tell us why he is pushing Kenyans to the wall in terms of heavy taxes,” he said.
The MP said that he will join others for peaceful protests if CS Rotich will not reverse the high fuel prices.
There is a public uproar after CS Rotich implemented the 16% VAT on fuel despite MPs suspending it for two years.
A section of politicians in Nairobi have issued a 72-hour ultimatum to CS Rotich to stop implementation of the VAT failure to which they will rally city residents to peaceful protests.
