Many changes are expected in the Luo Nyanza region in the approaching 2022 general elections, with several substitutions likely to emerge.
The most obvious one will be the exit of most of the region's current county chiefs, with Governors Okoth Obado (Migori), Cornell Rasanga (Siaya) and Cyprian Awiti of Homa Bay expected to retire after two terms of service.
This will see the entry of new and fresh faces, despite some Senators and Members of Parliament expected to ascend to some of these seats, it will still amount to change of guard.
Nyanza will also most likely be bidding goodbye to its ultimate kingpin and longtime presidential hopeful Raila Odinga.
The Orange party chief is most likely to exit active politics should he again take an unsuccessful shot at the presidency.
Due to his age, he will be expected to take the back seat and choose his successor or lead from behind the scenes as is the case in retired President Daniel Moi who is rumoured to be the power behind President Uhuru Kenyatta's rule.
With the new kingpin expected to take some time before fully fitting into the former Premier's boots, the region might be forced out of the political limelight it has basked on over the years.
The region might be forced to back someone else for the presidency in 2027, a change that will emanate from the 2022 unfolding.
