Deputy President William Ruto may fail in his 2022 presidential bid despite being a front runner, a vocal Member of Parliament from Central Kenya has said.

Ruto, just like past vice presidents,  apart from Jomo Kenyatta's deputy Daniel Moi, risks also failing to take power from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to Nyeri Town legislator Wambugu Ngunjiri, Ruto is repeating the same mistakes other VPs have done which have locked them from occupying the House on the Hill.

Ngunjiri accused the Jubilee deputy party leader of using intimidation and threats to force Kenyans support his bid.

He said Ruto, who a few months ago threatened to crush anyone trying to stand on his way, should learn a simple lesson in politics: Presidents are made by others and out of choice.

"Ruto is an extra-ordinary politician but he thinks he can make himself president," noted the first time MP.

He said another thing to fail the DP is his 'outdated' strategy of using selected leaders in every community to campaign for him instead of going directly to Wanjiku and seek her support.

"Rather than build a team at national level he is doing ‘retail’ politics; using financially malleable leaders in each community to go directly to voters in those communities and hope he can directly convince them to support him in 2022," Ngunjiri stated.
