Residents of Maili Mbili, Kiong'anyo in Kisii County have been left in shock after the body of a 14-year-old girl was found dumped in a bush in the area.
The class eight pupil is said to have been defiled before she was murdered.
Confirming the incident on Monday morning, area chief Justus Omari said the young girl who was a pupil at Kiong'anyo Primary School left her home on Sunday evening to fetch their goats which were grazing in the field but she never returned home.
"The deceased has been a good girl who is social with people in the village. Her death is a shock to villagers given that she was in class eight," he said.
The chief noted that they suspect the girl was defiled several times before she was murdered and dumped in the bush.
"The body was found this morning after family members searched for her everywhere last night. The rapist must be brought to book no matter what," said Omari.
He assured residents that investigations are being undertaken to ensure the culprits are apprehended and prosecuted.
The chief urged members of the public to cooperate with police to ensure justice is served to the family of the deceased.
