The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams ended recently with those who sat for the exams expected to join form one, starting January 2019.

Over one million candidates sat for KCPE this year, and most of them will be joining some of the top schools across the country.

The Luo Nyanza region that comprises of Kisumu, Siaya, Homabay and Migori counties is home to some of these top schools.

Here are some of them:

1. Maranda High School

It is located in Siaya County. Maranda is one of the famous schools in Nyanza due to its academic prowess. Last year, the school was ranked the best in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in Nyanza with a mean score of 64.239.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Siaya Governor Cornel Amoth Rasanga and Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo are some of prominent politicians who went to Maranda High School.

2. Kanga School

The school is situated in Rongo constituency, Migori County.

Among its former students is Eddy Anayo, former Leader of Minority in the Kisumu County Assembly. The school was ranked second in KCSE in Nyanza last year, with a mean grade of 61.934.

3. Maseno School 

Found in Kisumu County, the school has been the face of Luo Nyanza academic prowess for a very long time.

Last year, the school was ranked third in Nyanza with a mean score of 61.879.

Former Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Barack Obama Senior, (the father to former United States of America President Barack Obama) and former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende, are some of prominent people who learned their ropes at the school.

4. Kisumu Girls

For a very long time, it has been by far the best girls school in Nyanza due to consistency in posting better results in KCSE.

Former nominated Member of the County Assembly Farida Ahmed Salim is among a very long list of former students.
