Deputy President William Ruto has for the first time joined unending debate on President Uhuru Kenyatta succession debate, days after Vice Chair David Murathe openly dismissed his potential.

In a candid statement, Murathe insisted that Ruto's presidency would plunge the country into unimaginable economic quagmire, adding that he's unfit to lead.

"The small time he's been on top you can see what he's capable of doing. This will even escalate if he's not tamed. We can't allow him to take over," he said.

Ruto's allies have been at loggerheads with handlers of President Uhuru Kenyatta with Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei accusing Nyeri Town legislator Ngunjiri Wambugu of being used to undermine the DP.

And at Sugoi, Ruto who hosted a delegation from Busia and Bungoma, insisted that he's ready to walk his now path, dismissing endorsement from Uhuru indirectly.

"You must fight for it. You can't be wait to be endorsed. Let them come and face me on the ground. I am pretty much ready for them. You can't hide and wait to be endorsed.

"Let them bring the referendum. We shall support everything they want but not reduction of wards, constituencies or counties. We can only discuss increasing of resources," he said.

The unity deal between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga seems to have displaced Ruto from the equation completely, making him to change strategy.

Mr Kenyatta insisted during the New Year celebration that the Handshake has helped him dismantle cartels who have frustrated development in the country.
