Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to fire one of his powerful cabinet secretaries.
Kabogo said National Treasury and Planning CS Henry Rotich should step aside or be sacked after his name was dragged into the Sh21 billion Elgeyo Marakwet County dams scandal.
Rotich, who has been at the helm of Finance docket since Uhuru took over power in 2013, is accused of authorising payment of billions of shillings before the contractor commenced construction of the Arror and Kimwarer dams.
On Tuesday, the CS spent the whole day at the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters at Mazingira Complex off Kiambu Road, where he was grilled over the controversial dams.
"He should be grilled while out of office," Kabogo tweeted in response to reports that Rotich was questioned for over 12 hours.
The flamboyant politician said the minister needs to be suspended to ensure he doesn't interfere with the ongoing investigations.
"That’s why he must exit NOW!" added the former county boss.
Rotich has defended his move to pay for non-existent dams saying it was part of the conditions to be met before the contractor could begin construction.
"Advance payment is a procedure in virtually all commercial agreements and it is provided for in the Public Procurement and Disposal Act, 2015. It allows the contractor to mobilise and commence work and once the work commences the advance payment is recovered from subsequent interim payment certificates raised by the contractor," he said in an interview with Sunday Nation.
