Raila Odinga is a very influential politician in Kenya, no one can dispute that.

He has however been for a long time a kingmaker and somehow fallen short when he wants to be the king.

The 2013 and 2017 elections proved that Deputy President William Ruto has been the missing link for Raila to be the President of Kenya.

Ever since the fallout of Raila with Ruto over ICC case back then, It has been difficult for the man popularly know as "Baba" to find his replacement.

Raila opted for former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula in 2013 and even added Musalia Mudavadi and Isaac Ruto in the 2017 election.

None of these four, either individually or collectively, had an influence that could match the one Deputy President William Ruto had for the Jubilee side.

One can therefore, argue that politically, Ruto has a greater influence compared to all the four individuals Raila had as co-principles in both Cord and NASA, especially in terms of numbers, despite having entered the political scene later than almost all the four.

Ruto's political steps look to be simple and straightforward but in reality, they are very complex and calculated, he is really an asset to any politician.

Many will agree that a Raila-Ruto ticket would have increased Raila's chances of being the president of Kenya.
