Njonjo, who also served as Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister during President Daniel Arap Moi regime, was a long time MP for Kabete constituency, then covering also the current Kikiyu constituency.

His close friend and celebrated news anchor Jeff Koinange took on Twitter to celebrate his remarkable contributions to the country during his youthful days.

"99 Years old today and counting.......Happy Birthday to a living LEGEND and ICON, Sir Charles Njonjo, the DUKE of Kabeteshire....

"one more and you get to that CENTURY Milestone....LONG LIVE!! #HappyBirthdaySirCharles," wrote Mr Koinange on twitter.

With Kenya's rich history anchored in him, Njonjo is remembered from blocking a section of Mt Kenya politicians from sabotaging Moi's quest to succeed Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, two years to the latter's death in 1976.

The team lead by Koinange's uncle Mbiyu Koinange, Gikonyo Kiano among others, started a powerful 'change constitution movement' who aim was to block the Vice President from automatically succeeding the president upon his death in officer.

Later on, Moi and Njonjo would acrimoniously fallout with the former accusing the latter of plotting the foiled coup in 1982 that was undertaken by few officers from Kenya Air Force.

Commonly known as Sir Charles Njonjo or the Duke of Kabeteshire, Njonjo, whose imperialistic lifestyle is in public domain, married at the age of 54 with President Jomo Kenyatta being guest of honor.
