Kenya Red Cross (KRCS) has been hit by protest from Kenyans who have expressed diverse reasons why they will not be contributing to this year's aid to counter drought.
Speaking yesterday, KRCS Secrerary-General ,Abbas Gullet, said that many people have died from different causes, famine and drought included.
He added that the agency is seeking over Sh800 million to assist hunger-stricken residents. He was speaking during the launch of a campaign to help Kenyans facing drought crisis at Boma in Nairobi.
Kenyans have expressed their frustration with how past donations have been handled, asking Gullet to be table an audit report on the same.
Allegations of embezzlement and lack of accountability during the Kenyans for Kenya initiative which was spearheaded by the KRCS in 2011 has come back to haunt the society.
A section of Kenyans were also angered by Deputy William Ruto's remarks who denied death reports despite media reporting.
During a press briefing on Monday, DP Ruto told Kenyans that there was no cause for alarm, a comment that didn't augur well with a number of Kenyans.
