An MP from Narok has revealed the office he claims the Mau eviction planning meeting was held.
Narok North MP Moitalel Ole Kenta said on Friday that before the government ordered families to leave Mau forest, a series of meetings had allegedly been held at Deputy President William Ruto's office in Nairobi, where an agreement was struck that authorities evict people said to be settled at Kenya's largest water tower illegally.
Ole Kenta who made the remarks at a press conference held in Parliament buildings and attended by NASA-allied MPs said he would rally members of the Maasai community in Narok to resist the evictions which he said target a specific community in the Narok.
"The evictions have Ruto's blessings and are being coordinated in his office," the ODM MP said at the press briefing also attended by MPs Mark Nyamita (Uriri) Geoffrey Otsosi (Nominated), Anthony Oluoch (Mathare), Samuel Atandi (Alego Usonga) and Caleb Hamisi (Saboti).
There have been protests at the manner in which the evictions at the Mau forest are being conducted with residents of Narok claiming the local community is being targeted especially by politicians allied to Ruto.
Ole Kenta also called on Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to arrest and prosecute MPs fueling tribal divisions over the evictions.
