A Mount Kenya University Kisii Campus student is yet to come into terms after he lost Sh50,000 school fees in betting.
Edgar Okenye said his friend, Maurice Nyagaka has been betting with the money he was given by his father to pay school fees.
"Nyagaka has been undergoing a difficult time because he used Sh50,000 in betting and won nothing. I warned him but he could not listen. He has not been attending classes due to lack of school fees. He owes the school Sh62,250," said Okenye.
Okenye said Nyagaka who is pursuing computer science will be forced to defer since he lost all the money he had.
He said he hails from the same village as Nyagaka and he will not risk revealing the incident to his parents who are peasant working hard to ensure Nyagaka completes his education.
"I have never participated in gambling and I have no plans to do so because each day I see how my friends lose money. It is time students should focus on studies and not gambling using school fees," he said.
