Former Garissa Finance Executive Idriss Mukhtar who survived an attempted assassination has been air-lifted to India for specialised treatment, the family lawyer Lyne Owano has said.

Mukhtar, who had been admitted at the Nairobi Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was air-lifted to India on Wednesday.

According to the family lawyer, Mukhtar's condition has improved but they preferred to have him taken to India for more treatment.

"The decsion to have him (Mukhtar) air-lifted was made by the family in consultation with specialised doctors," the lawyer said.

Mukhtar survived an assassination on August 19, in Nairobi's Kileleshwa area.

He was sprayed with bullets on the head and doctor's say a bullet is lodged in his head.

A suspect, David Mwai, who confessed to have been hired to elimnate him died in police cells at Parklands police station last month.

Two key suspects, Hussein Aden and Juliet Njoki have since been charged in court with the former CEC's attempted murder.

Garissa Governor Ali Korane is among people who have been interrogated in connection with the attempted murder.

Korane has denied any involvement in the former CEC's attempted murder.

Detectives say that they are still persuing more suspects in connection to Mukhtar's attempted assassination.
