An ageing woman from Magwagwa ward has a reason to smile following the intervention by members of the public who addressed her plight.
Jeria Mokomba has been struggling to contain jiggers which had badly disfigured her legs and hands, thus drawing public sympathy.
And Nyamira First Lady Naomi Nyagarama and area MCA Fred Nyachae on Tuesday ferried the ageing woman to Nyamira County Referral Hospital where she's undergoing treatment.
"The First Lady was touched by her plight and she had to deploy us. We have worked together with the MCA and she's undergoing treatment. This condition can be treated. We shall also refurbish her house," said one Mbane, a staff in the First Lady's office.
Youth leader Kefa Moenga, who was among the first people to raise the matter, said the actions from the county government of Nyamira were welcome, adding that awareness should be raised throughout the county on the matter.
He urged the ministry of health to conduct public health conferences and awareness campaigns in future to teach locals about hygiene and health practices.
"It's a positive move. We were worried on the next step but the county has rescued the matter. Public Health department should conduct awareness campaigns in future," he said.
