A Member of Parliament has claimed that a ritual that retired President Daniel Moi underwent help him hold onto the instruments of power for 24 years.
While urging Gideon Moi to undergo the same ritual if he wants to take over power in 2022, MP William Kamket said Mzee Moi did the same back in 1979.
The ritual, which is done by the Pokot community, involves sleeping under an indigenous tree for a chilling night.
"You see this cold-shaded, old, indigenous tree? Your father slept here overnight in 1979,” Kamket told Gideon.
He added: “That sustained his reign (for 24 years)”
After one undergoes the ritual successfully, blessings are given and weapons of leadership and power handed over by elders.
Moi assumed power in 1978 after the death of founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
Moi went ahead to make Kenya a one-party country where Kanu was Baba na Mama.
In 2002, a rejuvenated opposition teamed up to uproot Kanu from power.
Moi’s candidate of choice in the 2002 presidential race Uhuru Kenyatta, dubbed Moi’s project, was thrashed by the Opposition’s Mwai Kibaki.
