The President made his grand appearance at the Nyayo Stadium during the 55th Jamhuri Day celebrations.

However, political pundits note that his choice of dressing during the fete was more than meets the eye.

Political analyst Nerima Wako-Ojiwa, when contacted on Wednesday, said that Uhuru’s choice to don full ceremonial military regalia was “no small thing” and may have been inspired by the latest appointments he made which had some intelligence backing.

“He has worn it before but today I see a lot of subtle signs. We have never quite seen a function that has heavily been focused on the military but today, that is the case,” stated Nerima.

She added: “Many would say he wore it to show more dominance since he is the commander-in-chief but his recent appointments having an intelligence backing; to me, it appears that he is openly part of them."

A week ago, Uhuru appointed former Vice President Moody Awori (91) as one of the seven oversight board members of Sports, Art and Social Development Fund.

Though the appointment sparked criticism from Kenyans, Uhuru has stood his ground and defended his move noting that youth appointed to similar positions have been embezzling funds.

Former Presidents Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and retired President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi have also donned the tunic military uniform in the past.
