Speaking at the burial of Warare Mixed Secondary School Principal Joan Wamalwa at Nanjekho Village in Agenga Nanguba on Saturday, Raila said there is need for an amicable solution be reached to avert the ongoing strike.

“The county and national governments should sit down and find out a lasting solution with the nurses union to enable the country to prosper," he said.

"There is no need to chest thump on this crucial issue. It’s my humble plea for the nurses to report on duty by Monday, February 18th, 2019,” he added.

Nurses have been on strike for the past two weeks demanding the implementation of the 2017 CBA with the union defying President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive of reporting to work.

Those in attendance at the burial were Busia Governor Ojaamong, his deputy Moses Mulomi, First Lady Judy Ojaamong, MPs Raphael Wanjala (Budalangi), Oundo Mudenyo (Funyula), Geofffrey Odanga (Matayos), Samuel Atandi (Alego Usonga), former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma, Justice Smokin Wanjala, Auditor General Edward Ouko and Kuppet  Busia County Executive Secretary General Moffat Okisai.

Busia county nurses had not gone on strike but speaking in the same function, Busia Governor Ojaamong affirmed to have received a strike notice slated to commence on Monday urging the nurses to refrain and embrace dialogue for the sake of Kenyans.
