Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has gone mute on the political front and it is not yet clear whether he is angling at contesting for a political seat in 2022 or not.
The last time the former vocal Senator made a public appearance was about a week to the August 8th general election where he addressed a press conference in Mombasa and accused Governor Hassan Joho and the ODM party of 'hijacking' Mombasa County.
Hassan, who was contesting for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat on a Wiper party ticket was an angry man who was ready to do anything to ensure Joho does not retain the governor seat after the election.
He used the same press conference to tell off a Mombasa County MP said to be preparing to takeover the reigns of leadership from Joho in 2022.
Although he did not directly name the MP during the press briefing, he said Mombasa would never again be led by academic dwarfs for there are better educated people in the county who can offer better leadership in the devolved unit.
"It is sad that Mombasa has been reduced to a county led by academic dwarfs. We will not allow dwarfism to reign again in Mombasa," the human rights activist said.
There were claims in the run-up to the August 8th general election that Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir may succeed Joho in 2022. The two leaders are close friends.
