Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang' Nyong'o came out during his mother's burial to reveal his plans of becoming a 'pastor.'
Governor Nyong'o, a political scientist and economist pointed out that he will enrol for a degree course in Theology at St Paul's University to continue with his late father's spiritual work.
''Allow me ladies and gentlemen for God's sake and in honour of my late mother to declare before you that as from next month, I will enrol for pastor hood,'' he said.
According to Nyong'o, his mother had wanted him to join the church and continue with his father's job. While his mother was a deaconess at the Anglican Church of Kenya, his father was a Canon.
''There is no greater love I can show to my deceased parents than this.... that a time can come for someone to lay down his life for his family and friends,'' he said.
He also revealed that he had always turned down his mother's pleas of joining a church to pick up his father's job.
''My mother always tried to prevail upon me and asked me whether I would be ready to step in the footsteps of my father. But I have rejected her idea. I always told her...Not me," he regretted.
Nyong'o buried his mother, Mama Dorothy Nyong'o on Friday in a colourful ceremony that was attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta among other powerful leaders.
