Deputy President William Ruto has been accused of remaining silent even after Malindi Member of Parliament (MP) Aisha Jumwa praised him using a popular gospel song at a function in Bungoma County over the weekend.

Citizen TV’s Editorial Director Joe Ageyo expressed concern after the DP chose to remain silent after Jumwa decided to praise him using the Hakuna wa Kufanana Nawe (There’s none like you) gospel song.

The song is sang by Christians in praise of God.

“It strikes me that this Aisha Jumwa song was sang right in front of the Deputy President. It also strikes me that the Deputy President never said anything about it,” said Ageyo during Citizen TV’s News Gang program on Thursday night.

Ageyo said that the DP had a responsibility of rebuking the vocal MP.

“Of course there’s no requirement for the Deputy President to vet the songs his supporters will sing in his praise, but one would imagine that once it happens he would either agree or rebuke the zealous supporter if they said things he did not agree with especially sensitive issues of this nature,” added Ageyo.

Jumwa was elected on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party ticket in 2017 but has since turned into one of DP Ruto’s vocal and loyal supporters ahead of the 2022 general elections.
