Most Kenyans came to know Moses Kuria during the Government of National Unity between retired President Mwai Kibaki and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Kuria was always writing articles in both newspapers and social media strongly criticising the ODM-wing of the coalition government, the writings which could be strongly condemned and trashed by vocal lawyer Miguna Miguna who then worked as Raila's political adviser.
When Gatundu South Member of Parliament Joseph Ngugi Nyumu died in 2014, Kuria vied for the seat once occupied by Kenya founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and his son President Uhuru Kenyatta and got elected unopposed.
Kuria, Njamba Ya Ruriri (Warrior of the tribe), as known among members of Kikuyu community, has been Raila's fiercest critic until few months ago when the former Prime Minister signed a peace deal with President Kenyatta.
But what most people do not know is that the MP has not always been Raila's political enemy.
When the ODM leader vied for the presidency for the first time in 1997, 26-year-old Kuria was part of his campaign team strategising to grab power from then President Daniel Arap Moi.
In a past interview with Capital News, the MP revealed his role was to advise Raila on how he could earn the support of Mt Kenya region which was rallying behind DP's candidate Mwai Kibaki.
"It will shock you that at 1997, I was a 26-year-old and Raila was going for the Presidency for the first time. And he wanted to know particularly how the Mt Kenya region would vote and if they would support him. He commissioned two young men to give him advice and I was one of them," Kuria recalled.
In the election which Raila accepted the results, he emerged as a distant third after Kibaki who narrowly lost to Moi.
