Joseph Kuria Irungu, the boyfriend to Citizen TV news anchor Jacque Maribe was a secret admirer to slain Kilimani woman Monicah Nyawira, fresh details indicate.
Nyawira, 29, was found murdered at her Kilimani home last week on Thursday. Her throat had been slit and her lifeless body shoved into the bathtub that had its water running.
On Tuesday, police arrested Kuria in connection to the murder. He was arraigned at the Kiambu Law Courts on Wednesday by DCI detectives.
Nyawira’s family has since revealed that the suspect was a secret admirer of their daughter.
“The two were mutual friends and only met on Facebook and Instagram. There was nothing close; Kuria admired my sister but she did not take it seriously since she had a boyfriend (Yasir Mohammed) who lives in Khartoum,” George Thiru, brother to Nyawira revealed as quoted by People Daily.
Thiru further revealed that they went to college together with Irungu – Technical University in 2012 - where they both pursued a certificate course in food and beverages.
After their course was done at the university, they never met again, he says.
Father to the deceased, Bishop Paul Ngarama of the Rebuilding Apostolic Mission Church resented her daughter’s death noting it was executed in an inhuman manner.
“Those who brutally cut the life of my daughter disrespected God who is the giver of life. Whoever did it was not a friend to her because a friend cannot rape,” said Ngarama at his Landless home in Thika.
He added: “We prayed and God has answered our prayer. Kuria has many girlfriends and his arrest has saved them from dehumanization.”
Nyawira’s mother, Miriam Kimani said she has no place in her heart to forgive her killer’s daughter.
“I cannot lie to you that I can forgive him. I want justice for my hardworking and visionary daughter.”
According to police reports, Kuria’s phone data reveals he was at Nyawira’s apartment on the day of her murder.
Further, a neighbour who saw the suspect flee the house dressed in a white kanzu positively identified Kuria in a parade as the man who left Nyawira’s house after the murder.
