Deputy President William Ruto's integrity has yet again put into question over the ongoing crisis in maize farming at his North Rift backyard.
North Rift legislators Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Silas Tiren (Moiben) and Joshua Kuttuny (Cherangany) now claim that Ruto is behind delayed payment of farmers who are owed millions by NCPB.
At Eldoret on Saturday, Keter also dismissed Ruto's 2022 ambitions, accusing him of evading maize farming woes because he's an interested party.
"Deputy President should talk about maize crisis. Farmers are tired with 2022 politics which he has already started on wrong foot. They want nothing less than Sh3,600 per bag.
"He is now telling them of avocado yet we know he's bulding a factory in Botswana. We also know he is planting 500,000 Ha of maize in Congo. Stop crucifying us. You're the problem and your office," he said.
The three rebel lawmakers asked the state to investigate Ruto over maize scam besides calling for implementation of lifestyle audit.
In October, an angry president Uhuru Kenyatta fired salvos at Agriculture minister Mwangi Kiunjuri, who he asked to investigate delayed payment and punish the cartels.
"Tell me which farmer can plant maize worth Sh200 million. This is outright fraud. Mr Kiunjuri tell us the cartels or you quit," he said.
