Angry residents in Nyamira County have demanded the immediate arrest of their Governor John Nyagarama over alleged misuse of public funds.
This is after the Auditor General report revealed that the Nyagarama's government cannot account for Sh1 billion.
The report revealed that some money was used in illegal air tickets.
Locals led by Alfred Onsinyo said Nyagarama belong to jail.
"There is no need for Nyagarama to continue being in office yet Sh1 billion can't be accounted for. We are appealing to DCI and DPP to move with speed to nab Nyagarama and arraign him in court," said Onsinyo.
Peter Barongo a trader in Nyamira County condemned Nyagarama saying he ventured into stealing public funds instead of developing Nyamira County.
"We never elected Nyagarama to steal public funds but develop the county. Now that he has stolen public funds he must be sent to jail and the money he has stolen be recovered," said Barongo.
Gerald Gichora, another local, accused Members of County Assembly (MCAs) of sleeping on their job.
"MCAs have condoned Nyagarama's poor style of leadership which has led the county to lose Sh1 billion. People like Nyagarama now belong to jail because he has abused office," said Gichora.
